About Your Editor

From the age of nine, I have been in the process of preparing books for the publishing market. My late father, a newspaper columnist and historian, produced 19 books, several for Doubleday and Random House. I proofread all of his galleys. I was obviously destined to be Mad about Books from a young age.

Here are a few highlights of this editor’s biography:

Education:
Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Louisiana State University, 2002.
Graduate work (French) Vanderbilt University, 1971 - 1973.
B.A., Tulane University (history, French, and English cum laude), 1965 - 1969.

Work History (Teaching - 25 years)
LSU, Instructor, English Department, 1999 - 2004.
New Orleans area high schools, French and World History, 1982 - 1999 and French, 2006 - 2008.

Work History (Editing - 21 years)
Mad about Books, my freelance editing agency, New Orleans, LA, 1995 - present.
The Ahearn Agency, Inc.(Pamela G. Ahearn, president), New Orleans, LA, editorial assistant, 1993 - present.
Freelance editing, New Orleans, LA, 1990 - 1995.
Thomas Nelson, Inc., Nashville, TN, freelance editor, 1979 - 1982.

Publications
"The Grammar Queen of New Orleans." Grammar column for The Last Word, monthly publication of the Southeast Louisiana (SOLA) chapter of the Romance Writers of America (RWA), 2004 - 2008.
Men, Women, and Children (short stories). Master’s thesis. LSU online publication, 2002.
Where the Towers Pierce the Sky. Young Adult novel. Macmillan, 1989.

As you can see, I have had much experience in the writing and editing fields. Along with my own fiction writing, there is nothing I love so much as to sit down with a pen or pencil, a cup of coffee, and a big, fat manuscript to critique. My own, yours - it doesn’t matter to me; all are equally irresistible. Both the process of creating a manuscript and that of polishing it are things I relish. While others might question my taste in entertainment, it’s an undeniable fact: I love to edit as much as I love to write! I hope you entrust your manuscript to Mad about Books; I will treat your work with careful attention and the utmost respect.
